苏黎世——很多人都看到过自己年迈的父母或祖父母丧失独立性。2012年,仅跌倒受伤一项就将超过240万65岁以上的美国人送进了急诊室。随着全球人口加速老龄化,上述挑战的规模正在呈几何级数增长,结果不仅影响到医疗保健系统,也影响到经济、政府政策、当然也少不了家庭。

联合国预测到本世纪中叶,60岁以上的人口数量将翻番,且65岁以上人口将有史以来首次超过5岁以下儿童。解释这种人口趋势其实很简单:全球生育率直线下降,从1950-1955年的每位妇女生5个孩子,下降到2010-2015年的2.5个。

当然,不应将老年人仅仅视为一种经济负担。事实上,他们可以发挥消费者的积极作用——很多行业已经认识到这一潜力并开始发掘。据美林银行统计,50岁以上人口在美国消费支出中占近60%的份额。
