ISTAMBUL Nos próximos meses, os 12 000 funcionários que trabalham na sede da Apple em Cupertino, Califórnia, irão concluir a mudança para um novo campus extravagante. A nave espacial, que abrange 2,8 milhões de pés quadrados, inclui um estúdio de ioga de dois andares, pistas de corrida e até caixas de pizza revolucionárias que mantêm as fatias crocantes. Contudo, não tem uma única creche.

Quando se trata de ignorar a importância do acolhimento de crianças para os pais no activo, a Apple não é um caso isolado. Esta lacuna coloca um entrave substancial à capacidade dos pais de alcançar o seu potencial económico, sendo as mulheres as mais prejudicadas.

A nível mundial, as mulheres realizam o dobro do trabalho doméstico e de prestação de cuidados não remunerado —incluindo criar os filhos, prestar cuidados a familiares doentes ou idosos e gerir as responsabilidades domésticas —em comparação com os homens. No México, Índia e Turquia, as mulheres realizam o triplo do trabalho de prestação de cuidados do que os homens.
