在3月份时,美国前副总统阿尔·戈尔的科学顾问,著名气候研究专家吉姆·汉森公开宣称,当面对全球变暖问题时“民主程序不管用”。因为虽然科学业已证明由矿石燃料燃烧所产生的二氧化碳正令地球不断升温,政治家们却不愿听从汉森的建议并停建火电厂。

汉森认为“人们所要采取的第一步行动就是利用民主程序。但最困扰所有人,包括他本人的,则是民主行动虽然影响了选举,但从政治领导人那得到的却只不过是假惺惺的表态。”尽管汉森没有告诉我们第二步或者第三步行动是什么,但他最近却出现在一个英国法庭上为6个破坏火电厂的环保分子出庭辩护,并宣称需要“更多人把自己捆绑在火电厂(来阻止其正常运行),”而这个观点也是戈尔所反复强调的。
