将不同国家生活水平进行比较的最新6.2版 宾夕法尼亚大学世界表( Penn World Table)刚刚出版。最新的数据来自2004年,因为数据搜集的滞后,有些国家还没有统计进去。尽管如此,这些数据仍然非常珍贵,因为它们不仅权威,而且系统地修正了不同国家间的相对价格差异,而修正后的结果有时会令所有人感到惊奇。

在2004年数据统计已经完成的82个国家中,的确传出了令人振奋的消息:2000到2004年间,人均实际国内生产总值(GDP)平均增长了189%,或每年增长4.4%。从总体来看,人们都比若干年前富裕很多。如果保持这样的速度,人均实际国内生产总值将实现每16年翻一番。

很多在2000年买不起车的人买了车,而2000年只能买一辆车的人现在则有了两辆。以前不能让孩子上好学校或好大学的人现在已经有这个能力。人们的消费分散在各种各样的商品和服务领域。
