华盛顿——美国的男女平等革命仍在进行中。过去50年,妇女的角色发生了巨大的变化,近60%的美国妇女进入到劳动力市场。但男性的角色却几乎没有任何变化。

尽管坚持平等看待男女的尊严和价值,我们仍然认为男性传统上承担的养家糊口责任比女性传统上承担的照顾责任更为重要。由此产生的深刻的社会和经济不平衡同样阻碍着男女的进步。

解决的重点是要减少对女性的关注,转而提升照顾工作的价值,并扩大男性可能的角色选择。选举任命更多女性走上领导岗位固然重要。但对女性进步的关注偏向于跟踪有多少女性身居要职:包括总体就业比例、平均工资、有多少担任首席执行官、高管、终身教授、银行家、医生、合伙律师、议员、总统和部长。
