芝加哥——近日来,美国各大媒体充斥着普通美国人对美国政客无能和不成熟的愤怒。美国政府在关键时刻终于成功地提高了债务上限,但整个过程险象环生,而且尚未脱离危险。公众怒问,为什么政客们不能像理智的成年人那样坐下来好好谈,及时达成广泛一致?公众怒问,既然我们可以实现家庭预算平衡,为什么政客们就不行呢?

然而,现实是美国政客所代表的正是美国全体选民的意见,而全体选民的意见注定不会一致,这丝毫都不令人奇怪。事实上,在最后一刻就提升债务上限达成一致倒是证明,政客们完成了自己的使命:代表自己的选区,只对全美国整体利益让步。

关键的问题是,由债务上限争论导致的政治僵局是否会对2012年(甚至此后各届)总统和国会选举造成不良影响。这并非不可能,但我们也不应该忽视美国政客刚刚所取得的成果。
