在丰田被迫召回数以百万计的汽车后,不管发生什么,丰田的发展史都将继续是富有传奇色彩的。它原是日本中部一个偏远地区的家庭纺织机械生产公司,前身可谓卑微,尔后成为世界汽车制造业的龙头企业,也成了高品质的代名词,这一变化过程是惊人的。正如其他一些日本龙头企业一样——比如索尼,本田,佳能——丰田是日本经济奇迹中的一颗璀璨明星,对同行来说,也是一个全球挑战。

丰田目前所面临的困境是暂时的或是不可挽回的,仍有待观察。尽管此次的羞辱,它依然有着巨大的优势——另外,不管怎么样,它受到的竞争压力也没有增大多少。但是,要捍卫自身的全球地位,丰田——大多数的日本跨国集团也一样——需要进行文化转型。
