印度的奥运失利

新德里-在世界等待着北京奥运会开始的时候,许多人也想知道中国的盛大露面舞会是否也是其扭转美国在奖牌数上优势的场所。人们普遍认为,中国具有献身精神的运动员有把握获得几十枚金牌和银牌。但是,不管他们的奖牌数是否赶得上美国,有一件事是肯定的:中国的邻居兼区域地缘政治对手印度,即使获得一枚奖牌,那也是它运气好。

当然,国际体育赛事是通过其它方式进行的国家沙文主义。在某种程度上,我们都假装投入奥运并赞美人类的体育精神。但是,我们中没有人否认这些东西的吸引力:运动员竞赛时代表的国家、对获胜者的赞美以及最终不可能忽略的经常更新的奖牌数。奖牌数列出了每个国家获得的金牌、银牌以及铜牌的数量,这也是比赛真正的光荣榜 。

每一个关注奥运会的印度人在浏览每日的奖牌名单时都心有悲戚,他们的眼睛在扫过了几十个大大小小的国家之后才最终落在了一个孤零零的印度获得的网球或摔跤铜奖上。更糟的是,当只有印度百分之一大小的国家在一个接一个的获得金牌而印度运动员只有在失利中才被提到时,我们都感受到了一天又一天等待印度出现在奖牌榜上的羞耻。
