阿里尔•沙龙总理企图让以色列从约旦河西岸和加沙地带单方面撤离的提议被其所在政党"利库德集团"的公决所否定。这次失败看似个奇耻大辱,但它似乎完全没有影响沙龙实施这项计划的意图。

乍一看这有点让人惊讶。因为他在全党公决以前曾表示会遵守表决的结果。但沙龙已是75岁高龄,并且有可能在两年内退休。他是决心要让这项计划成为其政治遗策。由于从未有过党内公决的先例,他可以争辩说自己不受表决结果束缚。

此外,沙龙还确保了其主要的政治对手-特别是前总理本杰明•内塔尼亚胡-支持他的计划。如此一来,他们现在就不能以利库德集团内部反对派的拥护者的身份对他发起挑战了。
