普林斯顿—波兰外长西科尔斯基上个月前往乌克兰谈判,据说他的乌克兰对手因为他手戴价格只有165美元的日本石英表而嘲笑他。一家乌克兰报纸报道了乌克兰部长们的喜好,其中不少人的手表价值超过3万美元。即使是乌克兰议会的共产党议员,也被拍到戴了一只零售价6000多美元的手表。

嘲笑者和被嘲笑者应该换一下才对。如果某人花了200倍于你的钱,最后买了一个还不如你的东西,你难道不会嘲笑他(或许为了避免失礼,你会在私下里嘲笑他)?

这就是乌克兰人做的事。他们本可以一只走时准确、重量极轻、不需要维护、可以用五年的石英表,完美计时,永远不需要晃动,也不会受伤。相反,他们花多得多的钱去买每个月都会快慢几分钟、一两天忘记上发条就会停走(如果是自动机械表,忘了晃动它们也会停走)。除此之外,石英表还有内置闹钟、秒表和定时器功能,其他手表要么没有这些功能,要么使用起来极为不便。
