最后的西藏人

西藏人是否命中注定要重走美国印第安人的老路? 他们是否最终会被贬低为一个旅游景点,向游客兜售曾经代表着一个伟大文化的廉价纪念品?那种悲惨的命运越来越有可能成为现实,而奥林匹克年已经被中国政府镇压藏人反抗的行动弄得变了味道。

中国人肯定逃脱不了干系,但西藏的命运却不像单纯的半殖民地压迫那样简单。有一点经常被人们忘记,那就是众多西藏人,特别是在大城镇中受过教育的西藏人,在20世纪中叶实现西藏社会现代化的愿望如此迫切,以至于他们把中国共产党视作了反抗圣僧和蓄奴地主的同盟。20世纪50年代早期,年轻的达赖喇嘛自己就曾被中国的改革所感动,写下了赞颂毛主席的诗篇。

唉,中国共产党不仅没有改革西藏的社会和文化,反而最终摧毁了它。宗教被打着官方马克思主义无神论的旗号所摧毁,僧院和寺庙则在文化大革命中被夷为平地(这种破坏常常是在西藏红卫兵的协助之下)。游牧部落被迫居住在丑陋的混凝土建筑物中。西藏艺术则成了被冻结在官方推广的“少数民族文化”传说中的象征与符号。而达赖喇嘛和他的随从则被迫逃到印度定居。
