伯明翰—去年海啸所引起的日本福岛第一核电站核泄漏事件被人们称为“福岛灾难”。从这个称呼开始理解我们对核能的误解再好不过了。

夺走16 000多人生命、摧毁和毁坏约125 000栋建筑、令日本首相将其称为日本自二战以来最严重危机的,是由有史以来袭击日本的最强烈的地震所引起的海啸。但被人们贴上“灾难”标签的确实福岛核电站。

事实上,福岛第一核电站防护海塘遇袭之后几小时甚至几天内所发生的事情尽管令人震惊,却称得上是核电安全性的一次有力证明。诚然,福岛附近居民所遇到的环境冲击需要很多年才能得到纠正。但许多国家对此的反应——特别是德国、瑞士和其他一些立刻叫停核能的国家——再一次暴露出人们长久以来在两大基本问题上的无知。
