 在1990年代,苏维埃帝国的崩溃以及南斯拉夫的血腥分裂造就了一大批新生国家。在奥运会和世界杯上,全世界人们都忙于辨认那些新奇的国旗和陌生的国歌。

 如今在非洲地区(也有可能是欧洲),我们将迎来了人们自身国家定义的新一轮分裂。苏丹南部地区将在明年1月举行公投,决定是否从苏丹独立出来。倘若他们真能如愿的话,这无疑会是非洲大陆自埃塞俄比亚1993分裂后再次诞生的一个新国家。而索马里,科特迪瓦甚至是尼日利亚也都可能分裂出新的国家。
