德国发明了社会主义。卡尔·马克思(Karl Marx)和弗里德里希·恩格斯(Friedrich Engels)是德国人。造就了当代欧洲福利国家的社会民主运动也发源于德国。尽管德国二战后重新融入世界贸易体系并从中受益匪浅,它却从未真正认同过盎格鲁-萨克逊资本主义,并对此一直持有怀疑态度。
