同性恋并非不道德

近年来,荷兰、比利时、加拿大和西班牙都承认了同性之间的婚姻。另有几个国家以类似的法律效力承认同性伴侣关系。更多的国家制定了法律防止在住房和就业方面基于个人性倾向的歧视行为。然而在世界上最大的民主国家,印度,男性之间的性行为仍然是受到法律制裁,可判终生监禁的罪行。

当然,印度并不是唯一对同性恋保持严厉惩罚的国家。在一些伊斯兰国家—例如在阿富汗、伊朗、伊拉克、沙特阿拉伯和也门—同性性交最高可判死刑。但对于将宗教教义引入刑法的国家,保留这样的法律是比较容易理解得—不管外人对此可能会有多么遗憾—而印度这样一个世俗的民主国家的这种做法则有些令人费解。

任何一个走访过印度,并观赏过寺庙中那些常见的露骨性爱雕刻的人都明白印度教传统中对性的态度比基督教要温和。印度禁止同性恋可以追溯到1861年,当时英国人统治着次大陆,并将维多利亚时代的道德观强加于其上。所以,具有讽刺意味的是,英国早就解除了相关的禁令,而印度却依然保留着这一殖民法律的遗策。
