Trump Opens the Nuclear Pandora's Box

During his first year and a half in office, President Donald Trump has cast doubt on America's mutual-defense commitments, withdrawn the US from the Iran nuclear deal, and given North Korea's nuclear program a free pass. The fear now is that his reckless policies will trigger a chain reaction.

In this Big PictureWolfgang Ischinger notes that a dangerous debate over whether to pursue a nuclear deterrent is now playing out in Germany. And Shlomo Ben-Ami shows how Trump's abrogation of the Iran nuclear deal has set the stage for a nuclear arms race across the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Javier Solana explains how Trump's Iran policy has undermined denuclearization efforts on the Korean Peninsula, too. And Kent Harrington points out that Trump's refusal to acknowledge North Korea's continuing enrichment efforts has left Japan and South Korea increasingly worried about their own defense.
