香港—在今年早些时候中国领导层交接之前,专家们纷纷表示中共决意要避免英雄人物掌权。他们指出,中共希望新领导人更像即将卸任的胡锦涛是一个官僚,而不要像前重庆市委书记薄熙来那样是一个强人。

但新国家主席和中共总书记习近平绝非平庸之辈。一上任他就前往深圳朝邓小平雕像致意,三十年前,作为前中共领导人的邓小平在深圳拉开了改革的序幕,让顽固的中共接受了自由市场。在11月的顶层会议中,习近平制定了经济方向根本性变革的细节,光芒盖过了它的同事。

如今,习近平领导的新经济小组将协调他心存不满的同事,实施他的改革。与胡锦涛不同,习近平马上就成为军队首脑,现在还领导着国家安全委员会。咋一看,一位“最高领袖”(paramount leader)正在冉冉升起。
