Wie hoch ist der tragbare Wert des Dollar?

Wie tief wird der Dollar noch fallen? Oder ist sein Kurs schon so weit gesunken, dass er nun wieder auf einen höheren Wert klettern wird?

Für Reisende aus Europa oder Asien sind die Preise in den USA dramatisch niedriger als in ihren Heimatländern. Ein Hotelzimmer oder ein Essen in New York erscheinen im Vergleich zu den Preisen in London, Paris oder Tokio als wahre Schnäppchen. Und vor der Heimreise decken sich Kauflustige noch ausgiebig mit einer großen Zahl an Produkten ein.

Aber trotz dieser sehr offenkundigen Sachlage, wäre es falsch, daraus zu schließen, dass amerikanische Waren zum derzeitigen Wechselkurs des Dollars nun so billig sind, dass der Dollar von nun an steigen muss. Obwohl nämlich Waren und Dienstleistungen in den USA für Reisende weniger kosten mögen als in anderen Ländern, sind die Preise amerikanischer Produkte insgesamt noch immer zu hoch, als dass sie das enorme Handelsungleichgewicht zwischen den USA und dem Rest der Welt ausgleichen könnten.
