¿Qué es la resiliencia?

CANBERRA – La "resiliencia", como el amor, es difícil de definir. Sin embargo, todos -desde el secretario general de las Naciones Unidas, Ban Ki-moon, hasta los organismos gubernamentales, los directorios de las empresas y los grupos comunitarios- hablan de cómo construirla o mantenerla. ¿La resiliencia es así un concepto útil o sólo una palabra de moda fugaz?

Para responder este interrogante, necesitamos empezar por otro: ¿cuánto creemos que podemos cambiar sin convertirnos en una persona diferente? ¿Cuánto puede cambiar un ecosistema, una ciudad o una empresa antes de parecer y funcionar como un tipo diferente de ecosistema, ciudad o empresa?

Todos estos son sistemas que se auto-organizan. Nuestro organismo, por ejemplo, mantiene una temperatura constante de aproximadamente 37 grados Celsius. Si la temperatura del cuerpo sube, empezamos a sudar para poder bajarla; si la temperatura baja, los músculos vibran (tiemblan) para calentarlo. Nuestro organismo depende de informaciones negativas para seguir funcionando de la misma manera.
