“魏玛俄国”一词最早出现于13年前当时的鲍里斯·叶利钦(Boris Yeltsin)总统和最高苏维埃的高度对峙状态,后来叶利钦的坦克炮轰国会从而结束了最高苏维埃的存在。所有人都明白这个词的意义:魏玛俄国,和魏玛德国一样,表示一个软弱无力的共和国遭到那些渴望恢复独裁主义的民族主义分子的内部进攻。

上世纪九十年代后期和本世纪初,那些会引发人们对国家垮台的恐惧的问题看起来都消失了。但是在过去18个月中,魏玛幽灵再一次开始萦绕在俄罗斯人心头。

俄罗斯社会对其痛苦的现代化的反应如果走极端的话,就可能会沦为一场惧外者领导的民族主义革命。如果在后共产主义现代化事业中被扯得粉碎的破桐之叶能够以一种新的方式合而为一并一起生长,那么就有可能出现另外一种不同但却有利的保守的反应。
