新发布的联合国粮农组织粮食安全全球研究显示粮食损失的程度是极其惊人的。据联合国粮农组织统计,57个发展中国家未能实现今年饥饿人口比例减半的千年发展目标。地球上有九分之一的人口——总数高达7.95亿——仍然每天饿着肚子睡觉。

其间当然也不乏显著的进步:过去25年里,世界多养活了20亿人口——尽管有57个国家未能实现目标——但发展中国家整体饥饿率已经下降了近一半左右。但难就难在要保持这种进展:到2050年,世界将出现接近翻番的粮食需求。原因之一是届时世界将额外增加20亿人需要供养;另一个原因是快速增长的新兴中产阶级胃口越来越高。
