Dekadenz bei Volkswagen

PRINCETON – Bisher läuft der Volkswagen-Skandal nach altbekanntem Muster ab. Erst gibt es Enthüllungen über ein beschämendes Fehlverhalten eines Unternehmens (in diesem Falle, dass VW 11 Millionen Dieselfahrzeuge so programmiert hat, dass diese nur während laufender Emissionstests das Abgaskontrollsystem anschalten). Die Firmenspitze entschuldigt sich. Ein paar Führungskräfte verlieren ihren Job. Ihre Nachfolger versprechen, die Unternehmenskultur zu ändern. Regierungen bereiten sich vor, enorme Geldstrafen zu verhängen. Und das Leben geht weiter.

Dies ist inzwischen ein vertrautes Szenario, insbesondere seit der Finanzkrise von 2008. Banken und sonstige Finanzinstitute haben es uns immer wieder vorgelebt, während zugleich eine Folge von Skandalen das Vertrauen in die Gesamtbranche weiter untergrub. Zusammen mit Volkswagens Betrug vom „sauberen Diesel“ sollten uns diese Fälle bewegen, unseren Umgang mit unternehmerischem Fehlverhalten zu überdenken.

Wie die scheinbar endlose Zahl an Skandalen in der Finanzbranche gezeigt hat, sind Besserungsversprechen eindeutig nicht genug. Sobald die Regulierungsbehörden einen Fall von Marktmanipulation abgehandelt haben, tritt ein neuer zum Vorschein.
