巴勒斯坦人抱怨说国际社会之所以办事不公,就是因为它们不满在巴勒斯坦领土上举行的自由和公正的选举结果。哈马斯在这一选举中大获全胜。2006年选举后产生的政府由于国际银行系统的封锁以及以色列拒绝转移代为巴勒斯坦人民征收的数百万美元的税款而无法支付公务员的工资。
