Sheryl Sandbergs rühmlicher Kampf

NEW YORK – Ist es in jedem Falle ungehörig, Frauen zu raten, an sich etwas zu ändern, um sicherzustellen, dass sie ihre Ziele erreichen? Den Selbsterforschungsbedarf der Frauen in den Raum zu stellen, kommt dem Betreten eines Minenfelds gleich: sicherer ist da schon die Forderung, uns weiterhin nur auf den Kampf gegen die allzu offensichtliche Diskriminierung aufgrund des Geschlechts zu konzentrieren. Manchmal ist es allerdings notwendig, das Minenfeld zu überqueren.   

Sheryl Sandberg, die Geschäftsführerin von Facebook, hat einen sehr mutigen Schritt gesetzt.  Sie schrieb ein Manifest über das Durchbrechen der gläsernen Decke unter dem Titel Lean In: Frauen und der Wille zum Erfolg. Dafür ist sie nun unter Beschuss geraten, denn sie argumentiert, dass sich Frauen oftmals selbst im Weg stehen.

Kritiker greifen Sandberg bereits an, weil sie angeblich den Opfern die Schuld zuschiebt. Anne-Marie Slaughter, die im letzten Jahr einen viel gelesenen Artikel zum Thema gläserne Decke verfasste, versucht eine offene Debatte darüber anzuregen, wo die Probleme liegen. Andere attackieren leider ad feminam: Sandberg ist reich und mächtig. Wie kann ihr Rat also für die sich durchwurstelnde, unterbezahlte Durchschnittsfrau von Nutzen sein?
