布莱尔的政绩毁誉参半

布莱尔完全可以自称为最近几十年中英国最为成功的政治人物之一,至少在国内经济和社会政策方面如此。但是,历史将主要地以他加入伊拉克战争的战略性错误而记住他。

在他的十年当政期间,布莱尔和他的财政大臣布朗给了英国历时最长的经济稳定、相对高增长以及低失业率的时期之一。在这一方面,布莱尔的首相任期标志着与工党征税和开支传统的根本决裂。这一时期也建立了新的经济政策稳定的传统,继续并且强化了先前保守党政府致力于财政纪律以及低通货膨胀的努力。稳定的经济政策以及快速的增长反过来让布莱尔政府能够将剩余的钱投入到教育和全国医疗服务上来。
