回望天安门广场

纽约-已故的共产党改革家赵紫阳的秘密录音回忆录的出版,重新激起了人们对1989年天安门广场复杂的历史遗产的争论。赵紫阳曾试图从根本上铲除中国经济体制的痼疾,但却因此最后在软禁中离开人世。如今,当中国在世界经济中的地位日益强大之时,值得我们牢记的是,20年前的这个6月,中华人民共和国几乎分崩离析。当年天安门广场上的抗议活动威胁了这个共产党国家的存在,而此40前毛泽东就在此宣布了这个政权的成立。

这种威胁来自两个方面-一是党内领导的最高层,二是都市群众。前者是政治局内部因在意识形态上对改革的分歧而出现了分裂;后者是由北京的学生打头阵,以公开和平的方式反抗当局。

令人惊讶的是,中国共产党摆脱了这场危机,团结在邓小平的“社会主义市场经济”的理想周围,并在实现这种理想的过程中在在城市人口中重新获得了执政的合法性。中国共产党重获了团结,在全球一体化和以市场为导向的发展的平台上,实现发展的过程中没有了学生的“民主女神”的干扰,但却给城市居民带来了实实在在的物质利益。
