今天的新“马克思主义者”几乎没有谁愿意说清楚马克思的吸引力究竟存在于何处,马克思试图把德国的哲学(以黑格尔理论为基础)和英国的政治经济学(与大卫·李嘉图一脉相承)结合在一起,从而把这两种相当保守的传统演变成一种极端的革命理论。

马克思无疑是19世纪版全球化的一位敏锐的分析家。1848年,他在《共产党宣言》中写道:“我们用来自四面八方的交流和国家间普遍存在的依存关系取代了原有的地方和国家在孤立的同时自给自足的模式。”
