个人的悲剧与国家的困难总是相伴而生。寿命缩短意味着更低的经济产出和收入。饥饿使人们更容易患病,从而需要更多的医疗开支。在营养不良的恶果中幸存下来的人们生产力下降,身体和精神的上的损害意味着儿童更难以从教育中获得收益。
