毫无疑问,学术产业正越来越走向国际化,特别是在科学研究方面。如今大概有300万学生在国外求学——在过去十年内增长了57%。外国学生已经统治了许多美国博士研究项目,比如在计算机科学方面,64%的博士生都是外国人。而如果把北京大学和清华大学两所高校加在一起的话,那么这个联合体最近已经成功超越了加州大学伯克利分校,成为攻读美国博士学位学生的最大来源了。

各大学的下属院系也没有闲着,如今全世界有一半的顶尖物理学家不在本国任教,而纽约大学和诺丁汉大学这样的知名学府也在中东和亚洲开办了分校。事实上各大院校已经在全世界设立了162所分校,相比3年前激增了43%。
