事实真相的未来

布达佩斯——在我最近参加的一次新闻编辑会议上,一小群人聚在一起,谈论新媒体和新闻业。当我告诉这群人我最初工作时是给一家杂志当事实核查员,有几个人大受感动,就如同有人告诉一群神父自己小时候曾经担任过祭坛助手。

我提到自己的过去是因为我认为事实核查不仅在新闻业、而且在整个生活中都是一种最有效的训练。它教会你抱着质疑的态度进行思考。听到似乎非常博学的某人做出论断就信以为真是很容易的。但如果你负责核查事实,你就会听得更加认真。

发言者的信息来源是什么?他是否在其中有利可图——更高的股价、广告费、或收获其它人的感谢?或者由于周围人、工作单位或家庭成员意见的影响他本来就带有偏见?
