Der Kurzschluss des Elektroautos

PRAG – Seit Jahrzehnten beflügelt die Idee des Elektroautos die Fantasie der Erfinder – schon Henry Ford und Thomas Edison beschäftigten sich vor über hundert Jahren damit. Prominente, Experten und auch Spitzenpolitiker erklären diese Fahrzeuge zur Apotheose einer umweltverträglichen Zukunft. Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel hat verkündet, dass es bis zum Jahr 2020 eine Million Elektroautos auf deutschen Autobahnen geben wird. US-Präsident Barack Obama hat ebenfalls eine Million Elektroautos in den Vereinigten Staaten versprochen – allerdings fünf Jahre eher.

Eines Tages wird das Elektroauto tatsächlich ein großartiges Produkt sein – nur jetzt noch nicht. Es ist zu teuer, es ist unpraktisch und sein Nutzen für die Umwelt ist gering (und in einigen Fällen nicht vorhanden).

Viele Industrieländer gewähren großzügige Subventionen für Elektroautos: Beträge in Höhe von bis zu 7.500 Dollar in den USA, 8.500 Dollar in Kanada, 9.000 Euro in Belgien und 6.000 Euro sogar im klammen Spanien. In Dänemark fallen die Zuschüsse besonders großzügig aus; dort entfällt beim Kauf von Elektroautos die Zulassungssteuer, die bis zu 180% des Anschaffungspreises betragen kann und die für alle anderen Fahrzeuge bezahlt werden muss. Beim weltweit beliebtesten Elektroauto, dem Nissan Leaf, ist diese Steuerbefreiung 63.000 Euro wert.
