捍卫自由的阴暗面

发自布鲁塞尔——有人说,所谓自由的代价,就是终生生活在失去自由的忧虑当中。而为了捍卫自由,这一代价有时会化身为某种置道德于不顾的政治决策,那些无辜的人们则首先沦为这些政治成本的承受者。

在冷战的大背景下,西方政府经常要做出一些战略上合理但却违背道义的决策。在“他或许是条疯狗,但至少是我们这一边的”这样的理念引导下,西方不惜与蒙博托(扎伊尔)和苏哈托(印尼)这样的独裁者同流合污。此外,所有那些半真半假的“自由战士”,从尼加拉瓜反政府武装,乍得的侯赛因·哈布雷,再到安哥拉的若纳斯·萨文比,都得到了西方的接纳和政治撑腰。即便是犯下大屠杀罪行的柬埔寨红色高棉,也在被逐出首都金边,逃入丛林负隅顽抗的某段时期内得到了美国一定程度上的支持。

冷战结束已经整整20年了,对于那些意识形态斗争中真正意义上的 “间接受害者”,西方有时也会意识到自己的补偿责任。比如说,那些被罗斯福和丘吉尔置于斯大林暴政之下的国家现在大多已经加入了欧盟。但还有一批为西方的自由默默付出了惨重代价的人们,却至今都不为人知。
