对于国家、文明乃至个人而言,信心是生活的关键因素。信心是希望的要素。信心让你展望未来,实现甚至超越你的能力。信心来自自我内部,但却可以通过别人感觉你的方式得到强化或者削弱。但是,信心正像是血压一样必须得到平衡。信心太多或者太少,问题就开始了。过度自信有可能会像是缺乏自信一样有破坏作用。

让我们看一下美国身陷伊拉克的例子。布什政府对于其目标,也就是将中东民主化的合理性过分自信正是那里层出不穷的灾祸背后的关键因素。

最近,我同做出从萨达姆手中“解放”伊拉克决定的关键人物之一进行了辩论。他是一位知名的新保守派人物,对于其远景设计合理性具有坚定不移的信心,在我看来就像是一个民主的布尔什维克。
