委内瑞拉最近的立法选举印证了在最近几年中不断使该国成为头条新闻的趋势。查韦斯总统再一次表明他在该国的穷苦人中享有广泛的支持,而且与其反对派相比,他在政治技巧、狡猾以及残酷无情上都远胜一筹。但是同时,在其统治时期,每次选举的投票率都在下降,而且,选举过程中不断显现令人怀疑的公正性。

的确,正如查韦斯所言,反对派在投票前几天退出选举表明的不仅仅是选举过程中的问题,而是反对派自身的虚弱。而且同样清楚的是,反对派的虚弱正是委内瑞拉传统民主秩序众多特征逐步窒息的功能。

即使如此,反对派的错误连连。从2002年4月针对民选的查韦斯的流产政变到2003年初委内瑞拉国家石油公司PEDEVSA半途而废的罢工都是如此。在政治中,没有比直接对抗更为致命的了。
