美国的反智主义威胁

纽约 – 今年来,与其说美国是一个为全球难题提供解决方案的大本营,还不如说是造成全球不稳定的一个源头。例子就包括:美国以错误的假设发动伊拉克战争, 对抑制天气变化的努力采取的阻碍的政策,减少援助其它国家发展的金额,对诸如日内瓦公约的国际条约的侵犯。当然,美国的这些引起不安的行为是有许多因素引起的,但是,其中一个重要的因素是反知识主义,最近共和党副总统候选人萨拉.佩林快速走红就是一个例证。

所谓的反智主义,我尤其指的是一种气势汹涌的反科学观念,其蔑视坚持科学和事实证据的人们。而解决象美国这样的大国所遇到的挑战,应该对信息按最科学的原则进行严格的分析。

例如,气候变化对地球造成了严重的威胁,这种威胁必须以普遍接受的科学标准和不断发展的天气科学的能力来进行评估。获得诺贝尔奖的全球科学程序,也称之为跨政府天气变化专门委员会(IPCC),已经为分析人为带来的天气变化的威胁制定了黄金的科学严格标准。我们需要懂科学知识的并擅长以事实为基础进行批判性思维能力的政治家们用这些科学的发现和建议制定政策和达成国际协议。
