华盛顿——实现世界持续发展的条件是树立新的世界观,新世界观更看重每个人的成功机会和人类安全,而不把收入视作幸福生活独一无二的条件。我们应当从这个角度认真思考世界的未来。

首先,这个世界将会远离陆上、水上和太空的冲突,同时确保今天仍然忍饥挨饿或者营养不良的7.39亿人享受到食品安全。这样的世界将会保护濒临灭绝的20,000种动植物物种,并充分理解它们对人类身体和精神的健康作用。这样的世界将会把我们从势不可挡的全球变暖趋势中拉回来,扭转全球变暖给沿海民众、天气模式、甚至是特定地区宜居性所带来的严重后果。这样的世界将会保护非凡的自然景观和灵感来源。更重要的是,对子孙后代而言,这样的世界会比我们的世界更能持续发展。

很多人认为这未免理想主义。但人们的生活会随着经济发展而改善。它逐步改变决策的政治经济环境,为全新理念创造成长的空间。其中之一就是除非实现包容性和绿色的经济发展,否则经济长期持续发展就成了一句空谈。
