艺术国家还是国家艺术?

在传统上,9月是歌剧团和乐团从埃克斯、萨尔斯堡和坦格伍德等各大夏季音乐节回到故里的时节。这一回归也标志着(在大西洋两岸的)人们对古典音乐资金资源的担忧又上心头。

美式的交响乐生活在除了资金支持以外的各个方面都是以欧洲为中心的。美国人靠可获减税的私人捐助和票房收入的资金来支持古典音乐表演,而欧洲人则更倾向于依靠直接的政府支持。

具有讽刺意味的是,虽然美国的艺术倡导者们长期以来就呼吁采取“欧洲模式”—它为欧洲人提供了丰富多彩的艺术生活—但欧洲却正被迫将这种财政支持模式转变为一种更多依靠私人资金和票房的模式。
