解放东盟的潜力

新加坡—十个文化、传统、语言、政治制度和经济发展水平各异的国家能够齐心协力提升它们的集体潜力吗?这就是纠缠了东南亚国家联盟(东盟)几十年的问题。从领导人宏大的合作愿景看,答案也许是肯定的。

一开始是一个旨在降低贸易关税的直接计划,后来演化为一个拥有6亿消费者、直接与世界最大经济体竞争的生产基地的有活力的开放市场的蓝图。实施之后,所谓的东盟经济共同体(AEC)将转变东南亚及其在全球经济中的作用。

毫无疑问,东盟经济潜力令人印象深刻。加在一起,该集团成员——文莱、柬埔寨、印度尼西亚、老挝、马来西亚、缅甸、菲律宾、新加坡、泰国和越南——将构成世界第七大经济体。此外,东盟国际贸易在过去十年中增长了近两倍。外国直接投资也在源源流入该地区,跨国公司也想利用这里快速增加的中产阶级和位于中国、日本、印度中间的战略区位。
