如果塞浦路斯僵局继续下去,也许最令人忧虑的后果是可能剥夺土耳其加入欧盟的机遇,因为希腊裔塞浦路斯人毫不妥协的态度为希望阻止土耳其入盟的其他成员国提供了口实。僵局还可能影响到希腊和土耳其之间的关系,尽管希腊总理科斯塔斯·卡拉曼利斯(Kostas Karamanlis)不久前对土耳其的出访点燃了和解的希望——这是半个世纪以来希腊总理首次访问土耳其。
