达累斯萨拉姆——20年前,南非摄影家凯文·卡特拍摄的一张苏丹儿童在饥荒中饿死,而秃鹫就在他头顶盘旋的争议照片震惊了全世界。批评者抨击这张照片兜售“灾难色情”,称这是国际媒体炒作非洲问题的又一个例子。

但令我感到不安的并不是照片。而是20年后,照片所描绘的问题依然故我。每年全世界仍有310万名儿童死于饥饿。

作为一名非洲医生,我知道严重营养不良和饥饿的摧残并不总是显而易见的。饥饿对人的摧残并不总像我曾在坦桑尼亚医院病房中看到的插着鼻饲管的幽灵般儿童根根突出的肋骨那么明显。慢性营养不良,也叫“隐性饥饿”,还体现在其他方面——但其破坏性和致命性却丝毫不减。而在其他疾病(包括急性营养不良)致死率降低的同时,隐性饥饿现象依然随处可见。
