LONDRA – Con la diffusione del COVID-19 all’inizio di quest’anno, i governi hanno introdotto i lockdown per evitare che un’emergenza di sanità pubblica sfuggisse al controllo. Nel prossimo futuro, il mondo potrebbe dover ricorrere a nuovi blocchi, questa volta per affrontare emergenze climatiche.
Le trasformazioni dei ghiacci artici, gli incendi violenti negli stati occidentali USA e altrove, e le perdite di metano nel Mare del Nord sono tutti segnali di allarme del fatto che ci stiamo avvicinando a un punto di svolta sui cambiamenti climatici, momento in cui la protezione del futuro della civiltà richiederà interventi drammatici.
Con un “blocco climatico”, i governi limiterebbero l’uso di veicoli privati, vieterebbero il consumo di carne rossa e imporrebbero misure estreme di risparmio energetico, mentre le compagnie di combustibili fossili dovrebbero smettere di trivellare.
