巴黎—今天的经济学争论通常由两大学派主宰。自由市场经济学家认为,政府应该减税、减少监管、改革劳动法,并让路使消费者消费、生产者创造就业。凯恩斯主义经济学家认为,政府应该通过量化宽松和财政刺激提振总需求。但两种方法都没有带来好结果。我们需要新的可持续发展经济学,让政府推进新型投资。

自由市场经济学为富人创造了了不起的结果,但给其他所有人带来了非常悲惨的结果。名美国和一些欧洲国家的政府缩减社会支出、就业创造、基础设施投资和职业培训,因为向政客选战提供献金的富有老板把自己服务得很好,即使在周边社会举步维艰时也是如此。

但凯恩斯主义方案——货币宽松和大规模预算赤字——远远不能带来承诺的结果。许多政府在2008年金融危机后尝试了刺激性支出。毕竟,大部分政客都喜欢花不是自己的钱。但短期提振因为两大原因没有奏效。
