宽容还是战争

华盛顿——纵观历史,虐待种族、宗教、语言、文化、区域、意识形态、性别或其他领域的少数族裔在世界各地无不对暴力和社会破坏起到推波助澜的效果。上世纪臭名昭著的案例包括纳粹德国大屠杀、柬埔寨红色高棉杀戮场,以及卢旺达的种族灭绝。

冲突社会中存在的断层往往会引发对少数族裔的虐待以及由此产生的连锁反应。少数族裔时常会沦为经济不平等和政治边缘化的受害者。这样一种消极趋势丝毫没有减弱。尽管国际条约、国内法律、各式机构、不断改善的教育和有组织宗教团体强化对少数民族尊重的努力能够有助于改善现状,但到目前为止相关的集体努力仍然达不到应有的效果。

除非人们停止纵容狭隘,否则问题就永远不会消失。从圣主抵抗军在非洲中东部不分青红皂白的杀戮,到巴基斯坦塔利班针对基督徒的攻击,近期发生的事件表明偏见仍然在人们心中深深地根植。
