糖之苦

普林斯顿—糖是甜的,但糖产品的伦理学一点也不吸引人。乐施会国际(Oxfam International)最近发布了一篇《糖果冲冲冲》(Sugar Rush,为其《品牌背后》(Behind the Brands)系列的一部分),披露我们对糖的使用导致我们做出了抢夺土地、破坏某些世界最贫困社区的权利的行径。更加了解情况和更讲道德的消费者可以改变这一状况。

我们喜欢甜的,这是基因决定的,而当我们衣食无忧时,就会消费更多的糖。结果是糖价上涨,导致生产商寻找更多的土地种植糖类作物。

毫不奇怪,当穷人的利于与富贵之士冲突时,吃亏的是前者。乐施会的报告中就有不少例子,生产商在居民不同意的情况下兼并土地,导致农民沦为无地劳动力。请看下例。
