大事有时也会产生令人意想不到的战略影响。奥萨马·本·拉登在巴基斯坦首都伊斯坦布尔附近的军事重镇阿伯塔巴德的一所院子被击毙，这一事件就印证了这一点。
世界首要通缉犯在巴基斯坦训练军官的军事学院不远的一座大房子里居住了六七年，这一事件引发的反应巴基斯坦早就该料到，但事实却非如此。巴基斯坦民营及军事机构对导致本·拉登死亡（很多巴基斯坦民众称之为“殉教”）的诸多事件表示震惊，国内要求重新调整与世界各国关系的呼声越来越强烈。如果西方国家不及时采取行动，本·拉登之死将很有可能导致世界政治秩序的重新调整，部分原因是因为巴基斯坦将战略圈从美国转到了中国。
