Hoffnung für High-Tech-Mütter

NEW YORK – Haben zwei hochqualifizierte Frauen – mit insgesamt vier Babys und Kleinkindern – endlich einen Weg entdeckt, die ideale Work-Live-Balance zu finden? Es sieht so aus, als hätte PowerToFly genau dies erreicht. Das Unternehmen wurde gegründet, um Frauen weltweit eine Beschäftigung im Technologiebereich zu ermöglichen, mit flexiblen Arbeitszeiten und der Möglichkeit der Arbeit aus der Entfernung.

Die Gründerinnen sind in den Bereichen Nachrichtenmedien, Sozialmedien und Technologie tief verwurzelt: Katharine Zaleski war geschäftsführende Direktorin der digitalen Washington Post und die erste Nachrichtenherausgeberin der Huffington Post; Milena Berry war leitende Technologiebeauftragte bei Avaaz.org, der weltweiten Spendenplattform. Beide Frauen erlebten aus erster Hand, wie sie – und tausende andere hochqualifizierte Frauen – sich trotz ihrer herausragenden Karrieren aus der Bahn geworfen fühlten, ohne angemessene Möglichkeiten für ein ausgeglichenes Arbeits- und Familienleben.

Als Zaleski ihr erstes Kind hatte, dachte sie, drei Monate Urlaub von der Arbeit seien genug – aber sie hatte sich getäuscht. „Mir fiel zu Hause die Decke auf den Kopf. Ich dachte: ‘Das ist schlimm. Entweder muss ich zehn Stunden am Tag zurück ins Büro oder ich bin weg vom Fenster.’ Zu wissen, dass ich nur zwei Möglichkeiten hatte, machte mich richtig depressiv.“
