我在巴基斯坦长大,知道对于像我母亲这样的受过教育的家长来说,了解哪些药物和药品可以信任是至关重要的。和那时相比,现在几乎没有任何变化。从拉合尔到卢萨卡的各个地方药房仍在以不同价格出售各种牌子的同一款药品;店主需要对药品的好处和短处做出权威说明。

不幸的是,问题绝不仅限于不起眼的小药店出售一些伪劣药品那么简单。每年有750亿美元左右的伪劣药被卖出,并且造成(据估计)全世界100,000人死亡、导致更多的人陷入重病。伪劣药交易还破坏了穷国脆弱的公共卫生体系。劣质药不但会杀害消费者,还会从父母传递给儿童,甚至产生新的耐药疾病威胁所有人的健康。
