道德和灾难

伦敦——第一次世界大战结束后,H.G.威尔斯曾经写到过道德和毁灭之间的角逐。人类被迫放弃了好战的习惯,威尔斯说,否则人类会被技术进步彻底毁灭。

但经济著作却勾勒出一个完全不同的世界。技术在这里成为当然的主宰。普罗米修斯被描绘成一位仁慈的君主,将进步的火种带给了芸芸众生。在经济学家的世界里,道德不应该企图控制技术,而应该适应技术发展所提出的要求。惟其如此才能确保经济增长和消除贫困。随着技术实现生产力的成倍提高,传统道德也逐渐为人们所淡忘。

随着原有信仰逐渐褪去和技术创造力不断增加,我们紧紧抓住了技术救世这根救命稻草。我们对市场的信奉——因为市场是技术发明的助产士——就是源于这样的想法。以信仰的名义,我们欣然接受了全球化,接受了市场经济最大限度的扩张。
