克莱蒙特,加利福尼亚—成为中共中央总书记还不到18个月,习近平似乎准备拿新中国历史上最大的政治“老虎”——某腐败顶级官员开刀了。尽管关于前国内安全总管周永康即将落马的流言已经传播的几个月之久,但许多观察者仍不确定习近平是否会起诉周永康,从而打破中共长期存在的不成文规矩——刑不上政治局常委,不管现任还是退休。

但如今关于周永康命运的怀疑已经被打消——近段时间以来中国媒体曝出一系列未受管制的新闻报道,披露了周永康家庭成员和前下属所涉及的令人震惊的腐败细节。某报纸报道说,当局最近搜查了周永康两位兄弟的家。尽管这些报道并未直指周永康,但中国政府正式以腐败罪名起诉他只不过是时间问题。

广为流传的报道可谓耸人听闻。据说周永康曾设局谋杀首任妻子,还有传闻说,去年的前重庆市委书记薄熙来(现已被定刑)丑闻的最高潮亦是周永康试图在中南海刺杀习近平。
