斯德哥尔摩——随着华尔街的崩盘导致了美国的衰落,现在应该是欧洲大显伸手的时候了。然而,欧盟在世界的影响力却在下降;现在欧盟的地位反而不如15年前了。正如新加坡资深外交官和学者马凯硕指出的那样,“欧洲人和世界上的重大问题没什么关联,他们只是对自己内部的事务感兴趣,再加上文化上的傲慢,对美国的懦弱和对亚洲崛起的视而不见。”

如果欧洲想要在国际事务中发挥更为重要的作用,改变目前经济长期下滑的趋势,就要关注以下几个方面的问题

·        所有权:过去几百年来,一直是欧洲的企业占据着发展中国家的市场,现在,轮到印度,中东以及其他国家的投资者来购买欧洲的钢厂和汽车制造厂了,在随后的日子里,中国人和俄罗斯人也会加入他们的行列。
